A Litany of Thanks

Now thank we all our God for hearts...

for the flow of blood through our bodies, that lets us live and move and have our being

for the ability to love and be loved

for the dreams and desires You give us

... And hands ...

that wash dishes, iron clothes, sew, knit, crochet

that hammer, plant, harvest, fix cars, build houses

that bandage bruised knees

that give a touch of comfort

... And voices ...

for baby giggles that float on air like bubbles

for children’s laughter, so full of joy, so lacking guile

for the cracking of a teenager’s voice

for a young bride’s whisper of love

for a father’s praise and a mother’s encouragement.

Thank you, God, for doing countless things for us

for giving us food and shelter and clothing

for blessing us with children

for giving us faithful friends and families

for being our Light in the darkness

for upholding us through trials great and small

for giving us a nation ruled by law

for establishing rulers

for saving us, through Jesus Christ

for grace to help in time of need.

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thess.5:18)

Happy Thanksgiving.
