What is South Pacific Mission?
South Pacific Mission is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to reach Micronesia with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
How Did South Pacific Mission Begin?
South Pacific Mission was founded by Pastor Steve Kim and a few believers, with a heart
for the lost in Micronesia, in 1997. This ministry was opened on a shoestring and faith
that God was leading. Christian volunteers gave their time, money and lives to equip
Micronesian pastors with the Word of God. Since its founding, South Pacific Mission has
supported numerous Micronesian pastors. Through SPM, Micronesian pastors grew strong in
the Word of God.
We don't pressure people to support us believing that God himself will draw those who
should be part of our work. Further, we are all volunteers at SPM. Therefore, we take no
salary from the donations of those that support this work.
What Fruit Has Come From South Pacific Mission?
¡¤ Annual Micronesian Pastors' Conference
Every year we host and sponsor annual pastors' conferences here in Guam. We invite all
pastors from Micronesia and teach them intense course of the Bible and theology for a
week. We have 60-70 pastors attend these conferences every year from various islands.
¡¤ Field Education to Korean Churches in Korea
Every year Micronesian pastors also take a trip to Korea to learn the principles of
church growth and church revival by visiting Korean role model churches. Pastors get
challenged and blessed.
¡¤ Bi-monthly Newsletters
Our newsletter updates the Micronesian pastors on current events, sermon outlines, and
pastoral resources.
¡¤ Financial Support
We support financially a number of Micronesian pastors and potential leaders in
Micronesia.
¡¤ Distribution of the Bible and Hymns in Their Own Language
We have provided 5,000 hymnals for churches in Chuuk and Pohnpei.
¡¤ Short-term Mission And Medical Teams
Each year we help send out short-term mission and medical teams to Micronesia.
¡¤ Through SPM, leaders in Chuuk and Pohnpei have formed their own mission organizations to send out missionaries.
Visions and Goals of South Pacific Mission for the Year 2000
We believe we can make a difference as God helps us.
It is our desire to see all the Micronesian people holding the Bible in one hand and a hymnal in the other.
It is our desire to see all the Micronesian people growing in the knowledge, faith, and love of Jesus Christ.
The following agenda are some goals that we've set for the year 2000.
¡¤ Pastor's Educational Program
Potential pastors will be selected and we would have them come to Guam 2-3 times a year
to study and train to become better leaders, which they can finish within 3 years.
Programs: Old and New Testament Survey, Leadership, How to Preach, Church Management,
Counseling, etc.
¡¤ Children's Ministry Program
There's an urgent need for teachers in this ministry to teach children how to worship
God and learn about our Lord Jesus Christ. Those who would like to participate will come
to Guam 2-3 times a year to study. For one week will visit a Christian school in Korea
to see how they run their programs.
Programs: Development of Children, How to Preach, Counseling, etc.
¡¤ Health program
We would like to assist the people of Micronesia to learn how to eat nutritiously and
how to take vitamin supplements. This will help them take care of their bodies and eat
right.
Programs: How to Cook Nutritiously, Importance of Vitamins, Right Diet, etc.
¡¤ Bibles and Hymnals Distribution Throughout Micronesia.
Our prayer is that one day, all the people of Micronesia will one day be able to have a
Bible in one hand and a hymnal in the other. Many of the church members and even
pastors can not purchase their own Bibles.
Unfortunately, according to the Micronesian pastors, only 10~15% of the people who
attend church on these islands are born-again believers. Right now, there is a great
need for Bibles and hymnals.
Our Financial Policy
It is our desire to be above reproach when dealing with the resources of God's people. We do not believe God gets into financial difficulties-people do. We believe that where God guides, He provides. We believe He has made no promise that He will not keep. When we share about our desire to reach and save the lost, we do not desire to either manipulate or produce feelings of guilt. We only seek to give opportunity to be part of His work and lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven. (Matt 6:19-21)
We accept donations from Christians who feel led to help. No salaries are paid-we are all volunteers. Our goal is to send everything possible to the mission field
To reach and save the lost is our hearts' desire.
Truly, it is these words from Jesus we seek: "Come you blessed of my Father, inherit the
kingdom of Heaven prepared for you, For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty
and you gave me drink; a stranger and you took Me in; naked and you clothed me; sick and
you visited me; in prison and you came to me." (Matt 25: 34-36)
The "Well done!" from Jesus is the reward we seek.
