Welcome Teachers
To a wonderful field trip experience
(and that applies to any other group that books a Planetarium show)

Field trips for all school groups can be booked any day that school is in session. Morning shows can be booked at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. each day.  These times are my best compromise to accommodate the bus schedules.  If your school does not depend on DPW buses for field trips or if your school has afternoon sessions, afternoon field trips can be arranged.  If your school, club or other organization would like an evening or weekend Planetarium show,  you must have a minium attendance of 25 people since the Planetarium person isn't paid overtime.

A typical Planetarium presentation consists of the 20-30 minute pre-recorded show (all shows are produced locally), a 15-20 minutes question-and-answer session, and a 15-20 minute 'Sky Tonight' segment.  Plan for a one-hour 'show'.

Maximum attendance capacity at the Planetarium is 75 people.  This is a fire regulation limit and includes students, teachers, aides, parents, bus drivers and all other warm bodies.  It is for your safety and the safety of the children.  Please do not exceed it.

There are curriculum oriented shows for the first five grades.  The second, third and fourth grade shows feature Isa Fanihi and her friend DB.  Isa is a smart and endearing fruit bat and DB isn't, perhaps, the brightest star in the heavens.  Together, they explore the seasons (and why we don't have any) with the second graders, phases of the moon and eclipses with the third graders, and take a wonderful romp through the solar system with the fourth graders.  Let Isa and DB introduce the wonders of the universe to your elementary students today.

Teachers of middle school and high school (and elementary teachers who teach mixed grades) choose their own shows from the extensive Planetarium Show Catalog.  There are several interactive shows and shows that have been written specifically for middle school and high school.  Check the Show Catalog for these shows.  There are also several shows that were entirely produced by groups of high school (and middle school) students.  If you wish to book a show for your club or organization, you also choose from the catalog.

To book a Planetarium show, you must provide the following information.

  1. Proposed booking dates and times (multiple dates in case one or more are already booked)
  2. Name of school or group
  3. Grade or age range
  4. Approximate number of people attending
  5. Name of person booking the show
  6. Daytime contact number or e-mail address for person booking the show

There are several ways to book a show.  The easiest is to call the Planetarium at 735-2783.  Afternoons are better as you stand a better chance of speaking to the real live me.  (Most mornings I'm running shows and you'll get the answering machine.)  You can provide the above information to the answering machine (if you get it) and you can also e-mail this information to
