Dear Friend(s):

Currently, there are over 100 reported HIV cases on our island (44 individuals have developed AIDS and 30 have died). We're writing to invite you to join citizens of Guam for the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial and Mobilization on Sunday, May 4, 1997. This marks the 14th anniversary of the world's largest annual community-based AIDS event. Caring people around the world, from Argentina to Zambia, will join in remembrance of those who have died of AIDS and in support of those who are living with HIV and AIDS.
The Guam observance of the event will happen on Sunday, May 4, at 5:15 p.m. at the Ipao Beach Park Pavilion, Ipao, Tumon. We'll light candles, hear remarks from friends and families, and present Memorial Quilt Taotao Guam. The event will also serve as an opportunity for participants to learn about HIV/AIDS services offered locally, and about the opportunities they have to volunteer.
If you are not able to join us for the event, perhaps you would be able to light a candle in your home. Also, you may want to write a brief statement and permit us to read it during the Guam observance.
I can be reached by phone at 653-6987, and by letter to 1997 Guam World AIDS Day Committee, c/o: Coral Life Foundation, P. O. Box 5183, Agana, Guam 96932. I look forward to your response. Thank you for your continued support in our efforts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Sincerely,

Drew Mason
