Palao'an Plus support for HIV positive women

One of the benefits of networking at the HIV/AIDS Skills Building Conference held in December is the surfacing of the need of women. Several participants expressed the need for a support group that would meet the special needs of women which are often overlooked when addressing the needs of the HIV epidemic.
In particular, women are faced with a negative stigma attached to HIV/AIDS as well as unique child care and financial problems not encountered with other illnesses. HIV positive women may feel overwhelmed by a combination of these problems which could lead to further isolation.
HIV positive women now have an alternative to that isolation. Palao'an Plus is a support group for HIV positive women and women with AIDS where women can come together and share their feelings about issues of concern.
The support group Palao'an Plus is still in the planning stages. If you are an interested HIV positive women and would like further information, please call Terry Aguon at 735-7166.
