Guam Marathon Course Description & Information

Course

Point -to-point course starting at the University of Guam fieldhouse. Runners go to Route 10, to Route 15 (Andersen back road), to Gayinero Road (through Yigo), left to Route 1, up to Andersen Air Force Base Main Gate, around to Route 3 (Nictam Road) to Marine Drive, where you turn right and proceed to the Reef Hill, turn right down the hill to San Vitores Road, continue along San Vitores Road to the first entrance to Ipao Park, turn right and finish in the parking lot. The second half of the event is the "Hafa Marathon Course". The first fourteen miles are mostly rolling up uphill and the final twelve miles are mostly downhill and fast. Fourteen aid stations will offer water. The aid stations in the latter portion of the course will also offer sponges and special drinks.

Weather Conditions

Precautions should be taken against heat and humidity. Temperatures at the start will generally be in the high 70's (Farenheit) and can climb into the 80's by 7:00 a.m. Warning: Inadequate training, failure to pace and disregard for the importance of taking fluids has resulted in life-threatening conditions, such as heat stroke, in both experienced and first-time marathon entrants. All runners should take fluids at each of the aid stations.

The Finish

The finish line will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Refreshments will be available at the finish.

Awards

Grand prizes of a trip to the New York City Marathon and guaranteed entrance, will be given to overall male and female winners (Continental guest runners and Continental employees and their families are not eligible). See Awards for further award descriptions.

Transportation

Transportation from Tumon Hotels will be provided to the start. All finishers who drive their cars to the start must make their own arrangements to get their cars to the finish. We suggest that runners make their own plans in advance. No vehicles, with the exception of official course rovers, will be allowed on Route 15. The road is narrow and dark.

Course Assistance

Fourteen aid stations will be provided as previously described. Radio communications between aid stations, medical personnel and official course rovers will be in operation throughout the event.
