CSI Conference Room
Introductions
The meeting was called to order by Jean Ellis, Vice-Chair of the Chapter.
Approximately 35 members were present.
Jean opened the meeting by introducing herself and explained her interest in the IWA. She went over the objectives of the Chapter and introduced Lorie Yu.
Lorie Yu thanked everyone for attending the meeting and explained how she conceived the Guam Chapter. Lorie explained that in her research, she felt that the IWA’s goals and objectives were well in-line with her own and felt that was encouraging. Lorie also noted the benefits provided to members of the IWA.
Goals and Objectives
Lorie pointed out that the main objective of the Chapter is to provide a networking source for the exchange of information and ideas between web professionals and other interested parties. To meet our objectives the organization will hold regular meetings and workshops. It will also be important for the group to maintain a website and to participate in trade shows so that we can establish our presence and provide a resource for information.
Organizational Ideas
Committees
Lorie explained the membership forms and the committee sign-up sheet that was passed around the room. She explained that the group will thrive if everyone participates in some way. Given the size of the group, work in committees should be minimal provided everyone works together. She encouraged everyone to sign-up. Lorie also mentioned that the election of a Secretary and Treasurer would take place at a later date once everyone has had a chance to get to know one another.
Workshops
The members were provided an information packet and Lorie asked that everyone indicate which workshops they would be interested in, and if there was something not listed to indicate their interest at the bottom of the sheet. Lorie also explained that workshops would be facilitated by members of the group and anyone interested should contact her or Jean. In the future, they may also contact the Events Committee Chair.
Keynote Speakers
Lorie then introduced Mr. Craig Squires, President of New World Information Systems who spoke on the progress of the Internet and on one of the latest technologies, XML.
Mr. Patrick Kelly, from Kuentos also spoke to the group. Patrick provided valuable information regarding the server at Kuentos and encouraged everyone to visit
http://db.guam.net to find out more information and play with the information he provided. The meeting was then adjourned and members joined for pizza and conversation.
