Governor's Monthly Report

Kouji Kaku
Governor
District 2750
RY 2001 - 2002

Greetings

Club Presidents and Secretaries:

Hopefully this message finds you all well. Before I start this month's report, all of us express our deep sorrow to those who perished of more than five thousand good citizens by 911 terrorism tragedy in the United States. All of the 35 Rotary District Governors in Japan send the message in our joint names to RI President King to express their grief and mourning. There is also RI President's special message to the Governor as indicated. Furthermore, I sent a letter to all Rotary Club Presidents of District 2750 asking to collect the gift of money to help for the incident. Please support this action.

September is 'new generation month' and October is 'Yoneyama month.' We are focusing on the new generation. It is a good time for all Rotarians to think about what we can do to help this young generation to carry the responsibility of the world of tomorrow.

In April, the Counsel on Legislation held its meeting. Many decisions related to the young generation and have been adopted:

Resolution 01-239
Rotary Clubs sponsor to establish or extend the service clubs for the age group of 10-14 Alcohol and drugs, premarital sex, and unlawful behavior affect younger and younger members of our communities. Because of this worry we are using Rotary's experience to reach to youth through the Interact.

Resolution 01-241
Focuses on 'youth service' as Rotary's fifth avenue of service. By that decision we need to place youth education in the forefront of Rotary activity. In District 2750 we rely on the 'New Generation Committee' to focus on this area of service. If we look at the organization, the New Generation Committee may be reorganized and take more responsibility that will generate results in the coming Rotary year.

October 25-26 is our District Conference. In our District this event used to take place in March but quite a few other Districts hold them in the first half of the Rotary year. Rotary International encourages this practice. So we are trying this year in October. RI President King always asks our Governor "Please change Rotary by changing the management of Rotary so that Rotarians become active, feel revitalized and this leads to healthy Rotary Clubs."

Change means one must change one's way of thinking. This is basic, but if one translates this into action, one must change one's means. The District Conference held in the first half of the Rotary year is such a thought. I use your Club bulletin to repeatedly give this of idea of change. I use this simple and hand-made way as a motto to prepare for the conference.

I wish many Rotarians and family members can attend the District conference.
