Course Description:This course gives the students an introduction to the keyboard and operational parts of a typewriter or computer. It stresses the development and use of correct techniques used in typing and the development of speed and accuracy. In this course students will also apply basic concepts in using the microcomputer for the production of correspondence, business forms, tabulations, manuscripts and reports.

Course Objectives: The student will be able to accomplish the following: 1. Use correct typing posture and correct "home position" for the fingers. 2. Identify, describe, and use the operational parts on any typewriter or computer. 3. Key straight-copy alphanumeric material at an average rate of 50 words a minute with two or few errors. 4. Key numeric copy using correct tough techniques on the 10-key numeric keypad at 25 words a minute. 5. Demonstrate composition skills integrating correct word use, punctuation, and grammer at the word, phrase, sentence, and paragraph levels. 6. Use WordPerfect to prepare correctly formatted memos, letters, manuscripts, and business reports with all errors corrected, which includes using WordPerfect commands to format characters, lines, and pages and using WordPerfect commands to perform the basic file management activities of creating, saving, deleting, printing, and exiting.
