Welcome to Art! As your teacher, I hope to foster a learning environment that lets YOU experience and express your creativity. I hope to provide you with some basic skills and concepts, projects and discussions that will enrich your experience with art. Art, like many other things, is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration….I look forward to a wonderful year of working with you.

General Objectives:

This course is designed so that the student will integrate Visual Arts knowledge with other content areas. Students should also be able to apply skills learned in real life experiences. Students will develop and apply various creative problem solving strategies while exploring and experimenting to discover solutions. Students will learn to self assess, plan, discuss, and evaluate projects and problems encountered. Students will be given a basic foundation in art history and appreciation, as well as create art work using the Elements and Principle of design, drawing techniques, and explorations in the use of various media.

The Rules

  2. Follow all school rules and apply to the classroom
  3. Stay on task.
  4. When I am talking, please pay attention.
  5. Keep all electronic, wireless devices, toys, or any other damaging or distracting items at home.
  6. Any lewd, vulgar, or inappropriate language or discussion is a violation of classroom rules.
  7. Any physical, psychological, or emotional aggression towards a classmate, a teacher, or any other school personnel or visitors is a violation of school rules.
  8. You will be responsible for a all the materials you use and for all the mess on/around your area.

Requirements:

  1. Lab Fees: A $10 lab fee is required per semester this equals $20 for the whole year.
  2. A pencil preferably A high number "B" grade pencil
  3. A sketch journal
  4. A three prong/ring folder or binder.
  5. A black free flowing ink pen.
  6. Bring student planners everyday.

Grading Policy:

You will be graded against yourself and by how well you meet certain criteria. Since points already determine participation on the day, in the end you are the best judge of your efforts.

Grades are established by a standard grading scale….

90%-100%= Excellent Work

80%-89%= Good Work

70%-79%= Not Bad

60%-69%= Needs a little more work

50%-59%= A little work, but needs more effort

Below 50= No effort at all

Projects & Homework’s = 40%

In Class Assignments/part = 40%

Portfolio = 20%

Deadlines: All assignments and projects have a deadline. Turn in all work on the assigned dates…..NEATNESS COUNTS. Everyday after the due date will result in a 5 points off the final grade, with 30 points being the maximum points off. After 30 points have been taken off the assignment will no longer be accepted.
