HEALTH
Mr. Han
Hello students!
My name is Mr. Han. I will be your Health instructor for the 1999-2000
school year. In
this class, you will continue learning the importance of Health to
you and in today’s society. This class
will give you the opportunity to set some health goals for yourself,
and then to follow through in achieving
your goals. Now, how will you do that? By learning to take
responsibility for your health, feelings,
relationships, diet, your social environment, and your level of physical
ability. I hope that the remainder
of the school year will be enjoyable for you as it will be for me.
In order for you to succeed in my
class, I will need your full cooperation and this is where my rules
and requirements come in.
I. MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THIS CLASS
1. Portfolio (three ring binder) sectioned into 5
parts:
a. Daily notes
b. Handouts
c. Graded Papers
d. Exams/Tests/Quizzes
e. Journals
*Please note that I require a portfolio notebook and not a folder.
In order for me to accept the notebook, it must be well-organized into
5 sections.
II. WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU
If you do all assignments
correctly and turn them in on time, then you should have no problems passing
my class. I will accept late assignments, but points will be deducted
according to how late the assignment is and how much the assignment is
being weighed. Please write legible. If I cannot read your
writing, I will consider it wrong and you will have to redo the work in
order to get credit.
III. CLASSROOM RULES
1. Come to class on time (in your seat
by second bell) and PREPARED.
2. Give respect and get respect, not
only for the teacher but for others as well. (This includes not talking
when the
teacher is talking, raising your hand to speak, and school property).
If you want to be treated as young adults, please
behave like young adults.
3. Respect substitute teachers and guests.
Please be well-behaved if and when a substitute teacher or guest is present.
4. No eating, drinking, or chewing gum
in the classroom unless otherwise. Keep surrounding area clean as
well as
the desks, class books, and supplies. You are responsible for YOUR area
and YOUR book.
5. Use your common sense. If you
think it’s wrong, don’t do it or ask permission.
*By following these classroom rules, you will provide an environment that is conducive to learning, improve your chances for getting a high mark for the class, and you will make your teacher, Mr. Han, very happy.
IV. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A RULE IS BROKEN
If a rule is broken, the following consequences will happen:
1st Offense:
Verbal warning
2nd Offense:
Offense will be documented
3rd Offense:
Detention/inform parent or guardian
4th Offense:
Disciplinary referral/conference with
parents
V. ASSIGNMENT/MAKE-UP WORK
As I mentioned earlier.
Late assignments will be accepted but will be penalized. If you are
absent, it
is your responsibility to make-up work that you have missed during
the allowed time or it will become a
zero. Absences must be excused in order for make-up work to be
accepted. You may not make-up any work for
any unexcused absence. All assignments must be turned in on loose
leaf paper with legible writing, NO spiral
paper will be accepted. All work not turned in will automatically
be a zero. All make up tests and
quizzes will only be made up during lunch time the following day YOU
return from school. Each day missed
will be a deduction of 10 points or 1 letter grade down. You
will be given 4 days to make up a quiz or
test. After, a zero will be issued to you.
VI. GRADING
-Grading is done on a point
system. This means that if you earned 425 of 500 points possible,
you would calculate your average by taking 425 and divide it by 500.
This will give you your grade earned for the class (EX: 425/500=.85=85%=B).
You will be graded by your quizzes/tests, weekly assignment check sheets,
class assignments, participation, attendance, journals and your notebook.
Other requirements such as projects and skits/plays may be added.
The grading scale is as follows:
90% and up = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
59% and below = F
Extra credit assignments may be given to raise your grade. However, extra credit assignments is not a right. I may or may not give extra credit points so please do not rely on that at the end of each quarter/semester.
