Health
Mr. A. Suarez
School Year 1999-2000
Welcome students!
My name is Mr. Suarez. I will be your health instructor for the 1999-2000
school year. In this class, you will
learn how important the subject of health is in today's society. This
class will give you the opportunity to set
some health goals for yourself, and then to follow through in achieving
your goals. How will you do that? By learning to
take responsibility for your health, feelings, relationships, diet,
your social environment, and your level of physical ability. I hope that
this year will be as enjoyable for you as it will be for me. In order for
you to succeed in my class, I will need your full cooperation and this
is where my rules and requirements come in.
CLASSROOM RULES
1. Come to class on time and prepared.
2. Give respect and get respect, not only for the
teacher but for others as
well. (This includes other students’ property, the equipment and
furnishings
of the class, and not talking
when the teacher is talking.)
3. No eating, drinking, or chewing gum in the classroom.
4. Know the school rules and observe them.
5. Follow directions the first time they are given.
6. Be in your seat when the bell rings and stay in your seat unless
you have the permission to do otherwise.
-By following these rules, you will provide an
environment that is conducive to learning, improve
your chances for getting a high mark for the class,
and you will make Mr. Suarez a happy teacher.
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THIS CLASS
1. Three ring binder (divided into sections)
-Daily notes
-Handouts/Homework
-Graded papers
-Miscellaneous items
2. Filler paper
3. Black or blue pens only
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
1. Journals/class activities

3. Class projects
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU
-If you do all your assignments and turn them in on
time, then you should have no problem passing my
class. I will accept late assignments, but points
will be deducted according to how late the assignment
is and how much the assignment is being weighed.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A RULE IS BROKEN
-If a rule is broken, the following things will be followed:
1st offense: Verbal warning
2nd offense: Name on board/offense will be documented/lunch
detention
3rd offense: Never happens but in case it ever does
occur which I doubt it will, you get lunch detention
and your parents and or
guardians will be informed
4th offense: Disciplinary referral/conference with
parents
ASSIGNMENTS / MAKE-UP WORK
-As I mentioned earlier, late assignments will be accepted but will be penalized. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up work that you have missed during the allotted time or it will become a zero and you will not receive a grade for that assignment. All papers to be turned in must be on loose leaf paper neatly written in black or blue ink, no spiral paper will be accepted. You may not make-up work for any unexcused absence. All missed work will become a zero. You may only make-up work for excused absences. All make-up tests and quizzes will only be given during lunch, before or after school.
-IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to take the initiative to make up your work.
ATTENDANCE
-If you are not in your seat by the time the tardy bell rings, you will be considered absent. If you are absent, you must bring me an admit slip. Attendance requirements should be found in your student handbook. Make sure to read those requirements carefully.
GRADING
-Grading is done on a point system. This means that if you earned 425 of 500 points possible, you would calculate your average by taking 425 and divide it by 500. (425/500)=.85=85%=B
The grading scale is as follows:
90% and up = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
59% and below = F
