Code of Ethics and Guidelines

Responsibility

- The students of Simon A. Sanchez High School (S.S.H.S) journalism class have the responsibility of informing the student body of worthy school related issues.

- Assigned articles should be completed and submitted by the first Friday of every month, unless otherwise specified by the instructor.

- All students of S.S.H.S journalism class shall serve as the eyes and ears of the student body. News worthy events , whether or not they are assigned, shall be covered by the witnessing student.

- Any students who violates any class rule or guidelines as set forth hereafter, shall serve the consequences.

Ethics

- Bribery or blackmail (to or from members of S.S.H.S journalism class) shall not be tolerated.

-Rumors or lies will not be permitted in the school paper, hereafter referred to as News Splash.

- Only truths which serve student body interest shall be included in News Splash.

- Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

- Vulgarity or profanity of any form will not be printed.

Fair Play

- News Splash will not print scandalous material against an individual or group of individuals.

- News Splash will not print material which is a violation of a person's privacy.

- News Splash shall make corrections promptly and completely.

- Distinction between personal opinion and objective articles shall be established within the headline or lead of an article.

Definitions

- News worthy - Issues which directly or indirectly affects the S.S.H.S student body or which serve majority interest.

- Bribery - Accepting gifts or favors in any form in exchange for information or an article in News Splash.

- Vulgarity /Profanity - Obscene or offensive material including, but not exclusive to words, ideas or sentences which suggests anything of a sexual nature or highly expressive emotion.

- Violation of privacy - Any material which was obtained against a person's will or without the person's permission.
