The course units are a guideline for basic communication.  The grammatical competencies are not systematic with the communication competencies.  The reason for this is that language, particularly conversation and speech, is not predictable or systematic.  The units only need to be comprehensible to the students.

Extensive writing and reading practice is also involved in the units, beginning with the here and now, the basic survival communication, then moving into more complex writing and reading as the students progress.

Course objectives are to prepare the students to move out of the LOTE classes and into the regular classroom after two years.  Communication II will concentrate on reading and writing more than the Communication I class.  Course units are the same for both groups with more flexibility and more intensity in the Communication II class.
