Prerequisite
Successful completion of Pre-Algebra, Algebra A, or Algebra B (grade C or better) or teacher recommendation.
Course Description
Students review the language of algebra properties, operations with integers, and absolute value. They then study solving equations and inequalities with one variable, (including word problems), polynomials, and beginning factoring. During the second semester students do more work with factoring and study rational numbers, applications of rational numbers, real numbers, solving and graphing equations and inequalities with two variables, quadratic equations, and systems of equations.

Materials Needed
The student is required to supply the following items when they come to class everyday:
*Assigned text (covered)
*3-ring binder
*Loose leaf paper
*Pencil
*Calculators (optional)
*Other (specified by the teacher)
Instructional Method
Class periods will be conducted in the following manner: attendance will be taken (refer to the attendance policy found in the student handbook), coverage of new material in lecture type, exploratory chalkboard examples, student-teacher discussions, assignment, announced/surprised quizzes, reviews, tests, exams, and group activities.
Mid-quarter and weekly progress reports will be issued to students. Parents are required to sign and have their child return the reports to their teacher. These documents will be documented for future references. Parent-teacher conferences will be held every 1st and 3rd quarters; parents are encouraged to attend.
