Pre-requisite

Successful completion of Algebra A or recommendation of teachers.

Course Description

Introduction to Algebra that is designed to address the second portion of Algebra I in a full year course. Guidelines for Algebra B includes the following: Polynomials: addition, subtraction, multiplication, problem solving, computer and calculator key-in exercises, factoring polynomials: quotients and factoring, products, factors, factoring patterns, general factoring and its application, computer and calculator key-in exercises.

Algebra I, Applications and Connections, Foster, Winters, Gell, Rath, and Gordon; Merrill Publishing Company, 1985.

Materials Needed

The student is required to supply the following items when they come to class everyday:

*Assigned text (covered)

*3-ring binder

*Loose leaf paper

*Pencil

*Calculators (optional)

Other (specified by the teacher)

Instructional Method

Class periods will be conducted in the following manner: attendance will be taken (refer to the attendance policy found in the student handbook), coverage of new material in lecture type, exploratory chalkboard examples, student-teacher discussions, assignment, announced/surprised quizzes, reviews, tests, exams, and group activities.

Mid-quarter and weekly progress reports will be issued to students. Parents are required to sign and have their child return the reports to their teacher. These documents will be documented for future references. Parent-teacher conferences will be held every 1st and 3rd quarters; parents are encouraged to attend.
