Course Description
This course will deal with the art of math as it deals with everyday needs. Topics to be studied will include hourly wages; salary, commission, and benefits; net pay; cash purchases; checking account; savings account; charge accounts and credit cards; loans; owning an automobile; other modes of transportation; leisure and recreation; buying a house; housing costs; energy; personal services; nutrition; home budgeting; insurance; investments; stocks and bonds; retirement; economic literacy; personal computers; and probability.

Consumer Mathematics; Lang, Mason, and Rousos; Glencoe Division of Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Publishing Company, 1989.
Materials Needed
The student is required to supply the following items when they come to class everyday:
*Assigned text (covered)
*3-ring binder
*Loose leaf paper
*Pencil
*Calculators (optional)
*Other (specified by the teacher)
Instructional Method
Class periods will be conducted in the following manner: attendance will be taken (refer to the attendance policy found in the student handbook), coverage of new material in lecture type, exploratory chalkboard examples, student-teacher discussions, assignment, announced/surprised quizzes, reviews, tests, exams, and group activities.
Mid-quarter and weekly progress reports will be issued to students. Parents are required to sign and have their child return the reports to their teacher. These documents will be documented for future references. Parent-teacher conferences will be held every 1st and 3rd quarters; parents are encouraged to attend.
