PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
RULES AND POLICIES
1999-2000
All students involved in the Sanchez High School Physical Education Program must and will
adhere to all department as well as school rules and policies at all times.
1. Students will dress out and participate each and every day unless instructed otherwise by their respective teachers.
2. Students will use the locker-rooms during the designated times for changing. Lockers will be assigned only by their respective teachers. Provide a combination lock and the combination to your teacher and you will be assigned a locker. Use only that locker. Do not leave your books and other personal items in this locker. It is only for your PE clothing. Your locker in the main building is for your books and other items.
3. Students who do not dress out for class must remain with their own class and still report for roll call. You will lose your points for the day and will not be allowed to make up these lost points. Non-dressers will not participate with their class, but will be assigned some sort of incentive work to show that dressing out is an important aspect of your passing the class.
4. Admit slips are due at roll call. No admit slip and you will be sent to the office to obtain one.
5. Medical excuses are required to be excused from participation in class. Parental notes to this effect are accepted at the discretion of the teacher and only once per semester.
6. Students are to be at their activity area for roll call and lined up prior to the arrival of their teacher. As soon as roll call begins, all talking will cease.
7. Students are to remain in their respective locker-rooms until the bell sounds ending the class period.
8. Chewing gum, eating foods, or drinking during class time is not permitted and will be dealt with by giving the offending party push-ups or sit-ups dressed or not. You will receive a punishment for breaking any department or school rule(s).
NON-DRESS POLICY
Make-up of excused absences (doctor, parental or administrative) is the responsibility of the student to arrange with their respective teaher. The normal method of make-up work is running the mile under a pre-determined time (such as 12 minutes). If you fail to make-up your excused absences, you will not receive your points for the day. This is an activivy class thus you make-up your misses with an activity. Each teacher usually has one day a week which your class will be able to run for make-up work.
THE GYM FLOOR
Only proper rubber soled athletic shoes will be allowed on the gym floor. No street shoes allowed.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE
Shorts sweat pants, jogging pants, football pants, bike shorts, leotards (no cut-off jeans). An appropriate tee-shirt or tank top (no tube tops, spaghetti string tips, revealing necklines or bare midriff).
Rubber soled athletic style shoes with laces (tied). No zorries, boonie stompers, high heels, ect.. No hats will be allowed worn inside the building.
Parents should pay attention to your child's mode of dress for P.E.. Due to the nature of the various activities, attention should be paid to make sure shorts are not too short or too baggy, as not to expose anyone to un-necessary attention of fellow students. Everyone should dress accordingly and in good taste. All students should bring a towel each and every day. Due to the nature of the class, personal hygiene should be practiced and students should shower before leaving the class.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT GRADING POLICY
The department policy for all regular P.E. activity classes is 50% for attendance and participation and 50% for written or skills testing. The daily points system will be at the discretion of each individual teacher, but the percentiles listed here will be uniform with all teachers in the department.
LINES OF COMMUNICATION
It must be understood that it is absolutely essential that there be a line of communication between the parents and the teacher. To this end it is imperative that parents take the necessary steps to insure that the school have current and up to date telephone numbers both at home and at the work place. Also should there occur any changes to these numbers, that the parent will notify the school of said changes immediately.
TEACHER DAILY GRADING POLICY
The departmental daily grading policy is to assign points each day for dressing, participation, and effort. Points will be deducted for non-dresses, absences (excused or un-excused), non-participation, lack of effort and tardys. This will result in 50% of the child's grade. The remaining 50% will come from written or skills exams in the activities offered.
Should you have any questions concerning these policies, please feel free to contact your child's teacher at 653-2313/18 and ask for the boy's or girl's P.E. office.
By signing below, it is understood that you the student and you the parent have received, read, and understand the policies and rules previously mentioned and will comply with.
