Island type: raised coral ridge with flat top, coastal cliffs, and chasm between two parts.
Situated 45 nautical miles north of Saipan. This is a coral island with deep caves. It is less than half a square mile in area and is tableland with low vertical sides covered by bush and savanna grass. The shores have low cliffs with caves on the south and west sides.
Natural threats: cyclones
Human Impact: uninhabited; formerly totally undisturbed; used as a military bombing range since 1971.
Ecosystems: limestone scrub
Special features: signs of frequent landslides
