INSIDE NEWS

Members Present 5 December

Mick Flynn, Sara Turner, Lisa Doherty, Jan Sharky, Tor Gudmundsen, Simon Lau, Jack and Luchie Jones and Rick Payne.

Meeting News

President Lisa opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance @ 6:40. Lisa asked each of us to stand and introduce ourselves. Tor was the Toastmaster for the evening.

Table Topics

Mick was our evening's Table topics Master. He called on Sara (2:30) to let us know if our school system is uses the learning capacity of a childs early years. Tor (3:00) was asked about humor in athletics. Simon (2:10) was asked what his coice of Wordprocessor was. Jan (1:40) was asked to describe her Secret Ambition. ( a Travel Writer!) Sounds good.

Article Review

Lisa picked an article from the Toastmaster Mag that addressed the question of when you became too involved with Toastmasters. Ten top signs included having prepared 10,000 3 by 5 cards with short talk outlines on them to cover most surprise table topics. Visiting Mission Viejo as if it were a shrine. At dinner asking "Madam Toastmaster, Please Pass the Salt. Seven other tongue in cheek items we toastmasters could relate to. It was very funny.

Joke for the night

Rick told the story of the Gorilla who ordered a drink in a bar. I would repeat here except that I don't want to be known as monkeying around

Speaker for the evening

Rick came prepared and gave an six minute "persuasive" talk on Discipline. If one wants to get ahead one has to prepare oneself. To win the Lottery you have to buy at least one ticket. Most of us have many ordinary qualities that can help us excel if we develop self discipline and work on our own improvement. Rich is working on his Able Toastmaster Certification.

Reports

Jack had positive things to say about Rick's Speech. Rich started with an appropriate joke, used quotes, used inflections and provided us with an example of good technique. Sara told us all that non-word count was low (as usual?) Rick 4, Simon 1 Jan 1 and herself (Sara) 1. Sara found no fault with our grammar. Rick did the general evaluation and suggested that we all come to the Podium for Table Topics and that no one ever abandon the Podium before someone get there to use it. I don't recall what the word of the day was but do recall that I snuck it in at the last minute just before it was too late.
